Radeon HD 5770 with new cooler: Low-cost version cooler and more silent
AMD's Ati Radeon HD 5770 has a new stock cooler which replaces the one with the HD 5800 and HD 5900 like design.
Since their launch the Radeon HD 5770 graphics cards have been equipped with a DHE cooling solution which is similar to the one used on the HD 5870 and HD 5850. Now it has been reported that several of AMD's partners have switched to the less expensive cooler. Among them are Asus, Club 3D, Powercolor and Sapphire.
PC Games Hardware has already tested the cards from Asus and Club 3D and noticed that the new design is more efficient than the old cooler - the only drawback: The warm air is not exhausted from the PC case directly. This pattern has already been used for the HD 4770, of which there had been only one model on the market that was shipped with the stock cooler. Back then the new cooler was quieter, too, but the GPU temperature was increased by about 5 degrees Celsius.
Pc Games hardware asked AMD about the matter and Simon Vivera, product manager of the HD 5700 series, confirmed that a new stock cooler design kit has been given to the partners. For the launch AMD wanted to have a uniform look that is in line with the fast DirectX 11 cards.
Since the new cooler is better than the old model, there is no reason to stick with the replaced version. But due to the oval plastic cover, it is possible to mistake the new cooler of the HD 5770 with the one of the HD 5750. On the pictures in our gallery you can see both of them compared.
