Sparkle with overclocked 9800GT+ against HD4770
Just before the market launch of the Radeon HD4770 Sparkle has announced a 9800GT with clock speeds of a 9800GTX.
The "Geforce 9800GT Plus” uses an own designed blue PCB in combination with a rather unspectacular dual-slot cooler. 112 stream processors, 2x DVI, 6-pin PCI-E power supply and 512 MiByte GDDR3 RAM meet the features of other 9800GT graphics cards and the feature list with DX10, CUDA, PhysX and Dual-SLI does not set the card that much apart either.
On the contrary the inner values of the card are interesting: While a usual Geforce 9800GT features 600 MHz chip clock, 900 MHz memory clock and 1,500 MHz shader clock the 9800GT Plus offers 675 MHz chip clock (+13%), 1,100 MHz memory clock (+18%) and hefty 1,674 MHz shader clock (+16%). Those values mostly correspond to a 9800GTX which also has 675 MHz chip clock and 1,100 MHz memory clock but its 128 stream processors have a clock of 1,688 MHz. In addition the card has an optimized power supply which offers more stability and better OC characteristics due to the additional phases of the GPU and memory supply.
Good overclocking characteristics might become very important if the card wants to enter combat with the HD4770. The latter only did slightly worse than a HD4850 and could therefore achieve the performance of a 9800GTX.
