Nvidia: 40 nanometer GPUs in second Q2 2009
Up to now there hadn't been a lot of information about Nvidia's plans regarding the 40 nanometer structure. But now TSMC and UMC are supposed to begin mass production soon.
Until the end of the second quarter 2009 the first 40 nanometer Nvidia GPUs are supposed to be mass-produced. According to a report at vr-zone.com Nvidia has already coordinated the plans for the production with the contract manufacturers Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC)
The chips that will to be produced in 40 nanometer structure are said to bear the following code names: GT218 (entry level), GT215 (high-end mobile) as well as GT216 and GT214 (both mainstream chips). Unfortunately there are no further details available yet. The first 40 nanometer cards from Nvidia's board partners are expected early in the third quarter 2009.
