AMD Cinema 2.0: Photorealistic characters with Radeon HD 4800
AMD released new details about Cinema 2.0 at a press conference in New York. With this technology photorealistic characters - the new Ruby was show as an example - can be rendered in real-time.
To achieve such results with Cinema 2.0, a living model is recorded by hundreds of cameras at first. With this data, a 3D build of a face, which can simulate different expressions, is created. AMD could help game developers to make dialogs and videos even more convincing. The animation of faces is a point where many games could be improved a lot.
It seems like AMD already found some partners for the technology: some big names of the game industry like Splash Damage, Crytek, Rebellion, Remedy and Blizzard were on site to watch the new Ruby demo.
