First picture of AMD's DirectX 11 graphics card with RV870 GPU unveiled?
When will we see the first DirectX 11 hardware? Moe and more rumors come up at the moment, but it seems like AMD has taken the lead and the first picture of an alleged RV870 graphics card has been published.
Currently it seems like AMD is having the advantage in the race for the first DirectX 11 graphics card. After the first wafer with DX11 GPUs has already been presented to the public there now is a picture of an alleged graphics card with an RV870 GPU.
Developer Codemasters is said to already have access to functional DirectX 11 hardware from AMD in order to develop new games and optimize engines for the new API.
In the forum of chiphell.com a picture has been posted that is said to show an AMD DirectX 11 graphics card with the RV870 GPU. A name has not been specified yet. The PCB is said to be a little longer than the one of the HD 2900 XT and the card is supposed to have two 6-pin PCI Express power connectors. The fan of the cooling solution is said to be the same that is used on the HD 4870. If this picture is authentic cannot be said with certainty, but AMD is supposed to introduce the first DirectX 11 devices this year - probably in October when Windows 7 will be released for the retail markets. Some rumors also estimate a launch in August. With Dirt 2 the first DirectX 11 game has already been announced.
