Sapphire Vapor X: Pictures of the 2 GB Radeon HD 4870 and the new HD 4850
Sapphire displayed new versions of the Ati Radeon HD 4870 and HD 4850 at the Cebit. The Radeon HD 4870 and 4850 Vapor-X have an efficient cooling solution and up to 2 GiByte VRAM.
Sapphire had already introduced several cards with the Vapor-X cooling solution and now the company adds two more models to the product array. The Sapphire HD 4870 Vapor X Edition has either 1 or 2 GiByte GDDR5 video memory - clocked to 900 MHz. The chip itself is running at the usual 750 MHz. The new Vapor-X cooler is said to be quieter and the voltage converters have a bigger heatsink. According to what we have been told, the prices for the graphics cards are not supposed to go up much even with the new cooling.
We will of course test the new cooling as soon as we get a sample. The Vapor-X has three heatpipes and a thermal controlled fan. Sapphire also wants to use the cooler for the HD 4850 series. The HD 4850 Vapor-X with 512 MiByte GDDR3 VRAM and frequencies of 625 MHz (chip) respectively 993 MHz (memory) as well as the HD 4870 Vapor-X with HDMI, DVI and VGA ports are already planned.
