AMD: Radeon HD 4830 (RV770 LE) is said to be released next month
AMD's HD 4800 family is growing: according to current rumors the Radeon HD 4830 will be released next month. It will carry a slimmed down RV770.
The GPU is said to be called RV770 LE, which will have 480 Shader ALUs and 24 texture units (TMUs). Actually this is a "real” RV770 that has 320 ALUs and 16 TMUs deactivated by AMD. This allows the producer to sell partially damaged chips instead of throwing them away.
The memory interface is kept at 256 Bit and will connect 512 MiByte GDDR3, as it was done on the HD 4850. It is said that every board producer will be able to set individual clock frequencies. Therefore a correct performance prediction is almost impossible.
In the face of the rough specifications, we suppose that the HD 4830 (480 ALUs/24 TMUs) will place itself between the HD 4850 (800 ALUs/40 TMUs) and the HD 3870 (320 ALUs/16 TMUs). So it seems like Nvidia's Geforce 9800 GT get a new competitor in the below-100-Euro-sector.
