Nvidia Graphics Plus Power Pack 2: Download and review of the Cuda/Physx update
As of today Nvidia offers the Graphics Plus Power Pack 2 for download. It contains several programs and games that demonstrate the power of Physx and Cuda. We took a closer look at some of them.
Nvidia Graphics Plus Power Pack 2: Introduction
With the Graphics Plus Power Pack 2 Nvidia consequently follows the way of Physx respectively Cuda (Compute Unified Device Architecture): The calculating power of modern Nvidia graphics cards isn't used for games only, but is transferred to the world of multimedia, too. First interesting approaches have been realized with the video improvements software Carmel or the video converter Badaboom for example. The Power Pack 2 consists of:
• Badaboom v1.0
• Warmonger v2.5 with two new levels
• Crazy Machines 2 with Physx support
• Physx Fluids demo by Kenneth Bugeja
• Physx Soft Body demo by Kenneth Bugeja
• Cyberlink Power Director 7.0 Trial
• Physx Screensaver
• Tmpgenc Xpress Trial v220.127.116.116 with Cuda acceleration
You can download the Graphics Plus Power Pack 2 from Nvidia's website.
Nvidia Graphics Plus Power Pack 2: Requirements
In theory you only need a Geforce 8 with 256 MiByte video memory or a better graphics card to use Physx and Cuda. With an 8400 GS for example you won't really get anything out of Warmonger and for Crazy Machines 2 a 9600 GT is recommended. Furthermore you need a Geforce driver version 178.24 or higher plus Physx driver.
