Microsoft Multitouch Mouse 2.0: Is this the gaming mouse of the future?
What will PC mice look like in the future? The research department of Microsoft is dealing with this question and introduces five solutions that combine the features of classical mice with the Multitouch technology.
Apparently Microsoft's developers and scientists are currently exploring seminal input technologies in many variations. Microsoft's Surface or Project Natal, research is done in many directions to bring the PC input to the next generation.
Microsoft now presented five different prototypes of input devices with Multitouch technology. All of the concepts are working with different kinds of touch sensitivity and thus have a different shape. Microsoft expects that Multitouch will become a key factor for the PC since it is already used in mobile phones. The new input devices are Called Multi Touch (MT) Mice. The target is that a user can manipulate the graphical user interface with the touch of a finger. Certain gestures will trigger appropriate commands.
The five prototypes utilize technologies like total reflection (as it is used for fingerprint sensors), but there is also a hemispheric prototype with an infrared camera. In our gallery you can find pictures of the prototypes with appropriate explanations. There even is a video below that you shouldn't miss since in motion the concept of the MT Mice becomes clearer - in one scene the devices are even used to play games.
What do you think about Microsoft's prototype concepts? Can you imagine playing games with such touch sensitive devices? Use the comments to give your opinion.
More information about the MT Mice can be found at Microsoft's website.
