Carmack announces Doom 4 with id-Tech 5 Engine
The almost legendary John Carmack confirmed at Quake-Con '08 that id-Software is working on the "next Doom” - traditionally this would be Doom 4 - and that work is making good progress.
A Live Blog reports that id-Software, represented by Todd Hollenshead and John Carmack, officially announced the "next Doom” and confirms that it will have "guns, blood, demons, and gibs”.
After Carmack had introduced a new video of Rage, which is based on the id Tech 5 Engine, too, and affirmed that Rage would run at 60 fps, he said some word about the future Doom.
Accordingly, Doom 4 - shorter than "the next Doom game” - "will look like it's built on another engine, as it uses three times the horsepower". Nevertheless it will run at 30 fps says the Live-Blogger.
Carmack also confirmed that id-Software turned down on the idea to work on a single game at a time only - because of financial reasons. Since there are no pictures of Doom 4, yet, we present some pictures of Rage - so you could expect some more of Doom 4.
