Crysis: Back to GDC06 graphics with tuned Config and ToD
Although Crysis has been released almost two years ago, it is still very popular since a lot of mods that increase the visual quality. The most ambitious projects try to restore the superior graphics of the first Cryengine 2 demos.
When Crytek showed the first assets of the Cryengine 2 at the Game Developers Conference 2006 the demo looked much better that Crysis when it was finally released in 2007. Since then modders are trying to restore the original look with different tweaks and modifications.
One of the impressive attempts that have been made to get Crysis look like those first screenshots has been made by Crymod Forum user Hunterbrute. He used the GDC06 Config mod by BaggiBox and added a new Time of Day setting to max out the visual appearance. In our gallery you can find some sample screenshots that also have been published in the Crymod Forum. Below you can also watch a video that shows the graphics modification in action.
The Cryengine 2 and the Sandbox Editor that has been published with Crysis give modders a broad variety of options to adjust or modify many of the game. PC Games Hardware has already reported about several of the most impressive and promising projects like the Cyberpunk-Noir City Environment, the unofficial Crysis 2 fan videos or Crysis screenshots at 25600 x 16000 pixels. The next generation of the Cryengine has also been demonstrated on some occasions (see: Cry Engine 3 for PC on Ati Eyefinity in triple full HD).
