AMD Phenom II 42 TWKR Black Edition: CPU not available in free trade?
More and more light is shed on the AMD Phenom II 42 TWKR Black Edition. TWKR stands for Tweaker, the CPU is said to have good overclocking capabilities and it will probably not be available in free trade.
AMD has started the launch of the Phenom II TWKR Black Edition processors. It is a special version which is capable of extremely high clock rates. TWKR is a stylized abbreviation for Tweaker. The processor will only be distributed to selected PC manufacturers indicating that TWKR processors will not be available on the retail market. AMD has not revealed many details yet. But it seems to be clear that those Phenom IIs will have the free multiplier of the Black Edition and very good overclocking capabilities.
The AMD Phenom II 42 TWKR Black Edition processors will probably be available only in complete systems which are cooled with dry ice or liquid nitrogen. So high clock rates can be guaranteed. First samples are said to be already delivered to high-end system manufacturers. It is rumored that all heatspreaders are labeled "Not for Sale” (please see picture).
Several overclocking tests as well as the engineering sample of our PCGH test lab could prove that extremely high clock rates are possible with Phenom II processors. We already reported about first rumors around the AMD Phenom II TWKR Black Edition. A first model was presented by Maingear.
In his blog, Wallace Santos, CEO at Maingear, shows a BIOS screenshot with an AMD Phenom II 42 TWKR Black Edition processor. Unfortunately AMD instructed Maingear not to reveal any CPU details. But Santos confirms that AMD has a plan for those processors and that he will publish a complete report on June 30. A fact that can be revealed: The CPU has better overclocking capabilities than a Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition.
