AMD presents running Maranello platform with 48 cores
PC Games Hardware already reported about Magny Cours, AMD's 12 core CPU for servers. Launch is planned for Q1 2010. AMD celebrated the birthday of Opteron last week and presented a running system with the new multi core module.
At the beginning of 2010 AMD wants to change the server market with their "Magny Cours". At the event around the sixth birthday of the Opteron last week AMD also presented a running "Magny Cours” system.
Every "Magny Cours" CPU had twelve cores and will officially be called Opteron 6000 - together with the four socket Maranello platform the system had 48 active cores. An 8 socket platform is not planned - however, the launch of the 16 core CPU "Interlagos” is scheduled for 2011. The picture by Andreas Stiller can be found at heise-online.de.
