AMD introduces 45 nm Shanghai CPU
Today AMD introduced their first 45 nanometer CPU (Codename: Shanghai). The quad-core processor will be available in an Opteron version for servers initially. The desktop model Deneb is said to follow in January.
About twelve months after Intel, AMD now delivers 45 nanometer CPUs, too. The Shanghai architecture has been revised in some parts, although the adjustments often are just cosmetic. In contrast to the launch of the Barcelona, the information on Shanghai has been sparse. The chip producer only offered a 30 page presentation; a review system was not available.
On the following pages you will find details about the Shanghai CPU technology, TDP, performance and the different models. We also take a look at the future of the CPUs at AMD.
