Intel Lynnfield: Official names and details about new CPUs - Update
More and more details about the new Intel CPUs with the codename Lynnfield are revealed. The names of the three new models have been determined now.
For a couple of days many details about Intel's new upcoming Lynnfield CPUs have been circulating in the internet. Now the names and specifications of the three new models seem to be determined.
According to a report on the well-informed website PC Watch the names of the new Lynnfields will be Core i7 860, 870 and Core i5 750. The following overview presents all known details:
|Family||Model||Codename||Cores/Threads||Clock rate in GHz||Clock memory controller in MHz||Cache||Socket||TDP||Price US-Dollar|
|Core i7 Extreme Edition||975 XE||Bloomfield||4/8||3.33||1,066 / 800||8 MiByte||LGA1366||130 Watt||999|
|Core i7 Extreme Edition||965 XE||Bloomfield||4/8||3.2||1,066 / 800||8 MiByte||LGA1366||130 Watt||999|
|Core i7||950||Bloomfield||4/8||3.06||1,066 / 800||8 MiByte||LGA1366||130 Watt||562|
|Core i7||940||Bloomfield||4/8||2.93||1,066 / 800||8 MiByte||LGA1366||130 Watt||562|
|Core i7||920||Bloomfield||4/8||2.66||1,066 / 800||8 MiByte||LGA1366||130 Watt||284|
|Core i7||870||Lynnfield||4/8||2.93||1,333 / 1,066||8 MiByte||LGA1156||95 Watt||562|
|Core i7||860||Lynnfield||4/8||2.8||1,333 / 1,066||8 MiByte||LGA1156||95 Watt||284|
|Core i5||750||Lynnfield||4/4||2.66||1,333 / 1,066||8 MiByte||LGA1156||95 Watt||196|
With the optimized Turbo mode every core of the Lynnfield achieves the following specifications:
• Core i7 870: 2.93 up to maximum 3.5 GHz
• Core i7 860: 2.80 up to maximum 3.46 GHz
• Core i5 750: 2.66 up to maximum 3.2 GHz
The Core i5 will come without SMT and Intel's SIPP and TXT technology - both of the new Core i7 will provide the complete feature set, however. The competition between the new and old Bloomfield and Lynnfield might become interesting and only a direct performance comparison will show which features will be suitable for everyday use. PC Games Hardware will run comparison tests as soon as the Lynnfield samples reach our test lab. The release is still planned for September.
Update: July 16, 2009
Digitimes wants to have learned that Intel will announce the Lynnfield CPUs (Desktop variants) and the according P55 chipset between September 8 and September 11. The mobile version, codename Clarksfield, is expected between September and October.
The server sector is said to see the announcement of the CPUs W5590, W3580, W3550 and L5530 in early August. Intel also prepares to introduce the Xeons X3470, 3460, 3440 and 3430 plus the appropriate chipsets 3400 and 3420 simultaneously to the Lynnfield launch.
More information about Intel’s CPU lineup can be found in detailed roadmaps published by pcwatch.jp. Those presentations show the planned price scale, feature sets and some up to now unknown and optimized versions of the Lynnfield CPUs – like the Core i7 860S, which is planned for 2010.
