Phenom II X4 965 BE: AMD obviously plans new CPU top model - Update
AMD reportedly plans a new top model for its CPU series - the Phenom II X4 965. With 3.4 GHz the clock rate increases again.
According to Tweaktown AMD will soon introduce the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition, the new top model under the AMD CPUs. The Phenom II X4 965 BE is said to have a clock rate of 3.4 GHz and 125 Watt TDP. As usual the X4 965 will have four CPU cores, 4x 512 KiByte L2 and 6 MiByte L3 cache. The Deneb CPU could launch for about 200-230 Euro. The Black Edition enables a multiplier which is free downwards and upwards.

Launching the Phenom II X4 965 could also be the reason for the price reduction of AMD's Phenom II X4 955 BE. Even Intel announces price cuts. Lately, the price of Intel's Core 2 Quad Q9550 dropped by 20 percent.
Update: July 2, 2009
Several websites congruently report that AMD will not launch the Phenom II X4 965 BE not in early July as expected earlier, but much later. According to the latest information there will not be a new AMD high-end processor introduced in July.
So it could happen, that the Phenom II X4 965 BE is launched when Intel releases the Lynnfield CPUs. Up to now there is no information what AMD wants to position against the new socket 1156 processors.
