Phenom II: 6 GHz not possible after all?
At the Overdrive Overclocking Finals in Paris Tom's Hardware had the opportunity to test the overclocking capability of the Phenom II 940. With LN2 a clock of only 4.9 GHz was possible though.
Only recently we reported about the good OC qualities of the new Phenom II CPUs. With liquid nitrogen extreme overclockers had clocked the processor to 6,280 MHz.
Even AMD had announced great OC qualities. According to a press release (we already reported) AMD also reached 6.2 GHz with a Phenom II.
Now Tom's Hardware had the opportunity to test the Phenom II 940. But they only reached 4.957 MHz with liquid nitrogen. The website justifies this result with the "Cold Bug” which usually leads to the fact that a CPU does not work properly any more at too low temperatures.
It remains to be seen how the individual Phenom II CPUs will behave at the launch in January.
