Arma 2: New release date, screenshots and story details
The military simulation Arma 2 (Armed Assault 2) is said to offer a high grade of authenticity. Now developer Bohemia has confirmed the release date and three worth seeing screenshots were published along with some story details.
The military simulation Arma 2 (Armed Assault 2) will be released on June 19, 2009 and today three new screenshots have been published. Bohemia Interactive is responsible for the development and the studio was already involved in Operation Flashpoint 1 and Armed Assault 1. Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising is developed by Codemasters.
Technically Arma 2 is based on the Real Virtuality Engine 3. DirectX 9 (Shader Model 3), multi-core CPU support, Parallax Texture Mapping and an enhanced lighting system are features that are supposed to be integrated.
As a soldier of the 27th U.S. Marine Expeditionary Unit the player is send directly into a raging conflict. The unit is positioned in the former Soviet republic of Chernarus which is stricken by civil war. You command a squad of five soldiers that is the first to enter battle as Force Reconnaissance Team, code name Razor. As if the civil war wouldn't be enough already, more parties, Russia and the USMC, participate in the conflict. Chernarus is surrounded and the the whole situation is about to escalate.
According to Bohemia's plans the player will affect the story. Dynamic conversations with team members and civilians are said to influence the plot. This is supposed to make distinctive tactical advantages possible. The area, which you fight in, is said to be 225 square kilometers big and based on real data. 136 vehicles, 350 kilometers of roads, 50 cities and all in all more than 1,000,000 objects are promised by Bohemia Interactive. Arma 2 is a military simulation and therefore trajectories are realistic, ricochets can kill and different types of ammunition cause a completely individual handling of weapons. The campaign will be playable in coop mode and in mutliplayer battles up to 50 gamers can participate.
